The Flesh-Witness | ์‚ฐ์ฆ์ธ | ๆดป่ญ‰ไบบ
, 2021, Video, sound, 13:34

The Flesh-Witness | ์‚ฐ์ฆ์ธ | ๆดป่ญ‰ไบบ re-edits military footage from the National Archives and Records Administration in the United States, documenting prisoners of war (POWs) from the Korean War. The footage documents the capture and control of POWs by the UN Command at the Geoje-do POW Camp in the 1950s. During the โ€œvoluntaryโ€ repatriation process, many POWs were coerced into being tattooed with anti-communist slogans and symbols to prove their ideological allegiance and secure their return to their homelands. The film features hand-traced drawings of these tattoos and accompanying accounts in three languages, forming a constellation of historical markers inscribed on countless bodies.

Reviewed for Military Security consists of three hand-traced carbon copies derived from photographic archives of Korean War POWs. These drawings outline the captions on the reverse side of the photograph using the identical tracing technique utilized to transfer POWs' tattoos on the film screen in The Flesh-Witness | ์‚ฐ์ฆ์ธ | ๆดป่ญ‰ไบบ (2021). The work is tethered to the original archive while revealing them as documents created, scrutinized, and preserved by the National Archives and Records Administration in the United States.

๋‹ค์‹ , ํƒœ์–ด๋‚˜, ๋‹ค์‹œ Born, Unborn and Born Again, Single HD Video, Sound, 12m 23s, 2020

Born, Unborn and Born Again revolves around my struggle to embody the White Horse, a zodiac sign which occurs every 60-year cycle in East Asian Countries. This film explores the transnational nature of governmental control over reproductive systems, and how this oppression manifests in our bodies and perceptions of self. I use the structure of my mother tongue, Korean, and my second language, English, to contemplate ruptures, repetition of time, and violence against women. An untold history resurfaces in the present, and re-orients us towards the future.

Symphony for the Eagle, Single HD Video, Sound, 3m 35s, 2020
Sound by InBloom Studio

Symphony for the Eagle is an exclusive tribute music video for quintessential American symbols: the Wanamaker organ, renowned as the largest fully functioning orchestra-like sound pipe organ in the world, and the 6โ€™ 6โ€ณ tall bronze Eagle sculpture. Both are prominently installed in Macy's, formerly Wanamaker's department store, located in Central Philadelphia. These symbols were acquired by John Wanamaker, an American merchant, during the 1904 St. Louis Worldโ€™s Fair.
